US President Donald Trump has not yet decided to impose a fee on China on buying oil from Russia, as Washington’s relationship with Beijing “affects many things that have nothing to do with the Russian situation”.
Vice President JD Vance has made this statement amidst tariff war. Vance told Fox News Sunday, “The President has said that he is thinking about it, but he has not taken any concrete decision.”
He was answering a question asked about by planting heavy tariffs on countries like India on purchasing Russian oil by Trump, and whether Washington China was answering a question asked, because Beijing also buys Russian oil.
Vance said, “The issue of China is clearly more complex, because our relations with China affects many other things that have nothing to do with the Russian situation.”
He said that Trump “is reviewing his options, and of course, when he decided, he will decide on it.”
The US initially imposed 25 percent mutual fee on India and Trump imposed an additional 25 percent fee on Delhi for the purchase of Russian oil last week, making India 50 percent, which is one of the highest charges levied by the US on any country in the world.
The additional 25 percent fee will be applicable from August 27. Significantly, India described the move as “unfair, inappropriate and indiscriminate”.
The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement in Delhi, “It is extremely unfortunate that the US has decided to impose additional fees on India.”
Also said that India will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests.
