Storm hits Japan with Heavy rain and Strong Winds: Three people have died in southern Japan due to a storm with heavy rain and strong winds. The Japan Meteorological Agency said that Typhoon ‘Shanshan’ hit near Satsumasendai in southern Kyushu in the morning, where up to 60 cm (23.6 inches) of rain is expected in 24 hours.
The weather agency said the typhoon was expected to bring strong winds, high waves and heavy rain to much of the country, especially southern Kyushu, where the highest level of warning has been issued.
In areas where typhoon warnings were issued, people have been urged to take shelter in community centers and other public shelters. Typhoon ‘Shanshan’ remained active around the southern island of Kyushu.
It is moving north at a speed of 15 kilometres per hour and has sustained winds of 144 KM per hour. According to the city’s disaster management department, heavy rains before the storm hit caused a landslide. This caused a house to collapse in Gamagori. Three people died in the incident (Death) was killed and two others were injured.
The Meteorological Department and administrative officials are worried about large-scale damage as the storm will slowly hit the Japanese archipelago over the next few days.
There is also a risk of floods and landslides due to this. Disaster Management Minister Yoshifumi Matsumura said that strong winds, high waves and heavy rains are expected due to the storm. Hundreds of domestic flights connecting southwestern cities and islands were canceled on Thursday and bullet trains and suburban rail services also had to be stopped.
