Ukraine President Volodimir Zelanskey will reach Washington on Monday, where he will meet US President Donald Trump. Zelanskey announced this on Saturday and said the meeting would focus on the issue of “bloodshed and ending war”.
Zelanskey reported that he had a long and serious conversation with Trump on a telephone. During this time the US President informed him about the “main points” of his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Zelanskey wrote on the social media forum x, “On Monday I will meet President Trump in Washington, DC. We will discuss everything related to ending war and violence. I am grateful for this invitation.”
The meeting is taking place three days after the trump-plunge talks in Alaska, where neither a ceasefire was announced nor any concrete progress came out. White House Press Secretary Caroline Lewit confirmed that Trump had a “long conversation” with Zelanskey on the aircraft while returning to Washington.
A spokesman for the European Commission said that the conversation was later involved in the conversation of Britain’s Prime Minister Kir Stmper, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Frederick Merz, NATO General Secretary Mark Rute and European Commission Chairman Ursula von Der Leon.
The European leader, who feared to be excluded from the Alaska meeting, later discussed his separate discussion. Meanwhile, Ukraine alleged that Russia fired 85 drones and a ballistic missile immediately after the summit.
After the Alaska talks, Trump and Putin held a joint press briefing, but did not question the journalists.
Trump said, “The deal has not yet been done, but the progress has been made. The deal will be done only when everyone agreed.” He described the meeting as “extremely useful” and said that “many issues have agreed”, but they did not go into detail.
He just added, “There are only a few issues left, one of which is the most important.”
Putin also said the common things of cooperation in his statement elsewhere – “We hope that the understanding that has been made will pave the way for peace in Ukraine.” During this time, when Trump expressed the possibility of a second meeting in the future, Putin smiled and said in English – “Next Time in Moscow.”
Putin also told Trump that if the war began in 2022, then this war would never have happened in place of Biden, who was the President of America.
