United Nations: UN chief Antonio Guterres has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, calling it ‘an important first step’. Guterres urged parties to the agreement to ‘seize this opportunity’ to establish a credible political pathway to a better future for Palestinians, Israelis and the wider region.

Guterres praised Egypt, Qatar and America

Antonio Guterres said, “I welcome the announcement of an agreement to ensure a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.” He expressed his gratitude to the mediators – Egypt, Qatar and the United States – for their efforts in taking this agreement forward. Appreciated. Calling the agreement “an important first step,” Guterres said, “We must make all efforts to advance broader goals, including preserving the unity and integrity of the occupied Palestinian territory.” “Palestinian unity is essential to achieving lasting peace and stability, and I stress that unified Palestinian governance must remain the highest priority.”
