Dhaka: UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres arrived in Dhaka on Thursday for a four -day visit to Bangladesh. Guterres will review the status of more than 1 million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. This visit of the United Nations Secretary -General is considered to be very important amid reports of the help in the aid of Rohingya refugees. Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs advisor Tauheed Hussain welcomed the Guterres at the main airport of Dhaka.

Rohingya crisis will pay attention

In view of the announcement of a possible cut in the assistance provided by the World Food Program (WFP) to the Rohingya refugees, the visit of Guterres is special. Several global organizations, including the US, have also announced to cut the assistance given to Rohingya refugees. The interim government of Bangladesh has hoped that this visit of Guterres will strengthen international efforts to gather assistance for Rohingya refugees and will also attract the world attention to the Rohingya crisis.

Rohingya refugee camps are in Cox Bazaar

The interim government came to power after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was removed from power after the mass rebellion in Bangladesh in August last year. The United Nations Chief Food Agency WFP said in a letter to refugee officials earlier this month that the food ration cut in the Cox Bazaar could come into force from April 1. Rohingya refugees are living in dozens of camps in Cox Bazaar. (AP)
