The United Nations Security Council will consult a closed room on the situation between India and Pakistan on Monday i.e. today. Islamabad has demanded an emergency meeting on the issue. Pakistan is currently a non-established member of the powerful 15-Nation Security Council, headed by Greece for the month of May.
Islamabad, “requested to” deliberately discussed in a closed room “on the tension between the two countries and the Greek Presidency has held a meeting in the afternoon on 5 May. In this meeting, strict decisions taken by India by Pakistan will be discussed and other topics will be discussed. This meeting in a closed room is also important because this meeting has been called by Pakistan.
The tension between India and Pakistan has increased after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April. The permanent representative of Greece at the United Nations and the President of the Security Council for May, Ambassador Evezelos Cecaris last week said that if a meeting requests to discuss the situation between India and Pakistan, “I think it should be a meeting because, as we said, it is probably an opportunity to express ideas and it can help reduce stress.”
Foreign Minister S.K. Jaishankar spoke to all the council members except China and Pakistan. In his call, Jaishankar underlined that “its criminals, supporters and planners should be brought into the dock of justice.”
