Karachi: Recently, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an attack by the Israeli army. A massive protest was held in Karachi, Pakistan against the killing of Nasrallah. During this period, clashes were also seen between the protesters and the police. Officials informed about this. Officials said the protesters were headed to the US Consulate to protest the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. During this, the police released tear gas shells and lathicharged to disperse the protesters.
March changed its route
Karachi Police said in a release that the religio-political party Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen (MWM) had called for a rally. Senior police officer Asad Raza said that the protesters tried to deviate from the planned route and march towards the US Consulate located on Mai Kolachi Road. Police officer Raza said, “When the police tried to stop them and reminded them of the route they had taken to protest peacefully, some of them became violent and started pelting stones at the police.” Some policemen were injured in stone pelting by the protesters.
Police released tear gas shells
Eyewitnesses said that many protesters changed course and were stopped by police as they moved across the ‘Native Jetty Bridge’ towards the US Consulate. Later, tear gas shells were fired and lathicharge was done to disperse them. Correspondents covering the rally in Karachi reported that protesters also beat up and injured some journalists and photographers. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Sunday condemned the attacks by Israel on civilians in West Asia. (input- agency)
