Democratic Party’s vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris on Wednesday (local time) recalled her grandfather, saying that her grandfather P.V. Gopalan often took her on morning walks by the beach in India where they would discuss the importance of democracy and the fight for civil rights.
In her tweet, she wrote, ‘When I was young, my grandfather often took me on morning walks in India, where he discussed the importance of fighting for democracy and civil rights.’ She said that she still remembers these words of her grandfather and this commitment and fight for a better future is still inside her.

Kamala Harris’s tweet is accompanied by a 57-second video, which has old pictures of her and her family and she is seen with her family. In this video, Kamala Harris says, ‘My grandparents were phenomenal. We would come back to India every other year. My grandfather was a protector of India’s independence and he fought for it. When I was a little girl, being the eldest granddaughter, my grandfather used to take me for a morning walk.’
