Missile attack caused a big pit
Tel Aviv: Huti rebels of Yemen targeted the International Airport in Israeli’s capital Tel Aviv. The missile fell outside Tel Aviv, just 75 meters from Terminal 3 of Ben Gurian Airport. According to the information, the missile allegedly crossed four layers of aerial security and collided on the ground, far away from the runway. The place where the missile fell, there was a pit about 25 meters deep.
Smoke spread as soon as the missile fell
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they made several attempts to stop the missile but failed. As soon as its falling near the airport, there was a smoke in the air. Although a direct attack on the infrastructure of the terminal was averted, it still caused panic among the passengers in the terminal building. Israel’s National Emergency Service Magan David Adom (MDA) said at least eight people were injured in the attack. The army released a video after the attack in which the officers are seen standing on the side of the pit in a garden, and the control tower of the airport is visible from a distance.
The central district chief of the police Yare Hazroni can be heard in the video saying that “you can see the area just behind us: a pit was built here, which was several dozen meters (yards) wide and several dozen meters deep”. Meanwhile, the authorities have started investigating the incident of a missile fall of Israeli air defense and one of the most sensitive areas in the country.
Iron dome air defense
Israel has a comprehensive system of air defense to combat missiles and drones. Known as Iron Dome, this system is designed to prevent a short distance rocket, as well as shells and mortar at a distance of 70 km from missile launcher. After the missile attack, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Catz issued a strict warning: “Whoever harms us, we will attack him seven times.”
So far, Israel has avoided a retaliation on Yemen despite Huti rebels attacks, as the United States is leading a comprehensive military campaign against the Iran -backed group. Huti leaders described the attack as a demonstration of their long -range attack capacity.
