Vladimir Putin hosted Iran’s Foreign Minister: ‘Inappropriate aggression’ told US attacks

Russian President Vladimir Putin met Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi in Moscow on Monday, 23 June 2025 and strongly condemned the missiles and bomb attacks carried out by the US on Iran’s nuclear bases. Putin, in a statement aired on television, told Arakachi that American aggression was “unfair and without justification”. He also said that Russia is committed to help the Iranian people.

Arakchi told Putin that Iran is working in “legitimate self -defense”. He described Russia on the “right side of history” and thanked Putin for condemning American attacks. Arakchi said that Russia has always played a positive role in Iran’s peaceful nuclear power program.

The meeting took place by the US on Saturday two days after the attack from B-2 stealth bombers at Iran’s Fordo, Natanj and Isfahan nuclear sites. US President Donald Trump termed these attacks as “spectacular military success”, claiming that the sites “completely destroyed”. However, satellite imagery shows that the loss was partial.

Putin said, “You have come to Russia in such a difficult time when the situation in your country and region is seriously deteriorating.” He referred to Russia’s “long, good and reliable relations” with Iran and spoke of discussing tension in the Middle East.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei sent Arakachi to Moscow seeking more support from Putin. According to a senior source source, Arakachi had taken a letter from Khamenei, seeking support against Israel and the US from Russia. However, Russia has not yet committed military aid.

Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov said that Trump had not given detailed information about the attacks to Putin. Peskov also expressed concern that damage to Iran’s nuclear bases could cause radiation danger, although it is yet to be assessed.
