Gurpatwant Pannu Case: A US court has summoned the Indian government and top officials on the claim of Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. Pannu has alleged conspiracy to murder in a civil case. The summons have been issued by the US District Court in the Southern District of New York. The Indian Foreign Ministry has termed this summons as completely inappropriate. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that action was taken when the matter came to the notice of the government.
‘Completely unfair case’
Vikram Misri said that a high level committee is looking into the matter. Vikram Misri said that this is a completely unfair case. I want to draw your attention to the person who has filed this case. Everyone knows about Pannu’s background. He is associated with an illegal organization which has been banned under UAPA. This step has been taken because this organization is involved in anti-national and subversive activities.

Nikhil Gupta and Vikram Yadav have also been summoned in the murder conspiracy case. Nikhil Gupta was arrested in the Czech Republic last year on the request of the US government for his involvement in the conspiracy to assassinate Pannu in New York, he was extradited to the US from the Czech Republic in June this year. In April 2024, The Washington Post had named Vikram Yadav, an officer of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), as involved in the conspiracy, the report also said that then RAW chief Samant Goel had approved the operation. However, the Center rejected the report, saying that the claim that Indian agents were involved in the attempt to assassinate Pannu is completely unfair and baseless.
Pannu is wanted in India
Gurpatwant Singh Pannu is the head of an organization called Sikh for Justice. He has been giving inflammatory speeches and threats against Indian leaders and institutions. India declared him a terrorist in 2020. Pannu has dual citizenship of the US and Canada. He is wanted in India on charges of terrorism.
India-US relations will not be affected
Earlier in May this year, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said that India was investigating the matter. However, he had stressed that the matter would not affect India-US relations. Jaishankar had said in an interview to PTI that we are investigating it. US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti has also said that the matter will not affect India-US relations.
