The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on Tuesday claimed that they killed Major General Ali Shadmani, the top Iran’s top military commander Major General Ali Shadmani in a targeted air strike in the middle of Tehran. According to News18 report, Shadmani, who was the closest military advisor of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was appointed as Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters on 13 June. The appointment was made after the death of his predecessor Lt Gen Golam Ali Rashid in the Israeli attack.
Shadmani was the Joint Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the regular Iranian army. Khatam al-Anabia, which he led, was responsible for approved by Iran’s warship operations and attacks. According to IDF, Shadmani played an important role in shaping military strategies under Operation “Rising Lion”. The attack was carried out by taking advantage of “accurate intelligence information” and “sudden opportunity”, in which the Israeli Air Force targeted a command center in Tehran.
Iran has not yet officially confirmed Shadmani’s death. The murder is the second time in five days when Israel targeted Iran’s War -time Chief of Staff, causing a deep setback to Iran’s military command. Earlier, Israel also targeted IRGC Commander-in-Chief Hussain Salute, Military Head Mohammad Bagheri and nuclear scientists.
Shadmani, who was experienced of the Iran-Iraq war, previously served as the head of the Deputy Commander of Khatam al-Anbia and the head of the Directorate of General Staff. His assassination has deepened the Iran-Israel struggle, which has increased the possibility of regional war. At the G7 Summit, the leaders supported Israel’s right to self -defense, while Iran fired missiles on Tel Aviv in retaliation.
