Lisbon (Portugal): Before Aga Khan’s funeral, many celebrities, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, paid tribute to him in Portugal. He was the 49th hereditary Imam of Shia Ismaili Muslims. Leaders and dignitaries paid tribute to him at a private event in Lisbon on Saturday, a day before Aga Khan IV was handed over.
These include Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Spain ruler Juan Carlos among the dignitaries who attended a private event organized for Karim Al-Husaini at the Ismaili Community Center. Portugal President Marcello Rebello de Susa and Lisbon mayor were also among those who mourned. The Ismaili religious community said that Karim will be handed over to Aswan, Egypt on Sunday.
Died on Tuesday
The ‘Aga Khan Development Network’ and the Ismaili religious community announced his death on Tuesday. The next day, 53-year-old Rahim Al-Husaini was nominated as Aga Khan V, the spiritual leader of millions of Ismaili Muslims in the world, according to his father’s will. Aga Khan considers her followers as a direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad and considers him the head of the government. (AP)
