Ramstein Air Base (Germany): Defense Minister Lloyd Austin has given the reason why America does not want to withdraw its troops from Syria. He has said that after the removal of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad from power, the terrorist organization ‘Islamic State’ (IS) is trying its best to re-establish its roots. But America will not let this happen. Therefore, America needs to maintain the deployment of troops in Syria to prevent Islamic State terrorists from re-establishing themselves.
Austin told The Associated Press on Wednesday that US troops were still needed there, particularly to ensure the security of detention centers where thousands of IS militants and their family members are being held. It is estimated that eight to 10 thousand IS terrorists are imprisoned in these centers and at least two thousand of them are considered extremely dangerous.
If American troops withdraw, Islamic State will dominate
Speaking at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, Austin said that if Syria is left alone, “I think ISIS terrorists will rise again.” The US Secretary of Defense is at Ramstein Air Base to discuss providing military assistance to Ukraine with approximately 50 partner countries. He said, “I think we still need to take more steps to curb ISIS.” America has about 2,000 troops present in Syria to deal with ISIS. (AP)
