Syria Saydnaya Prison
Damascus: After the end of the rule of former President Bashar Assad in Syria, the first place where people are reaching is Saidnaya Jail. Thousands of people from every corner of Syria are reaching this dreadful prison in search of their loved ones. This prison was infamous for its horrors. It was known as the ‘killing ground’ for a long time. People are flocking to this prison outside Damascus to search for traces of their loved ones.
people broke heavy doors
When people reached here on Monday, they were disappointed. People opened the heavy iron doors in the corridors and found that the rooms inside were empty. With the help of hammers, shovels and drills, people made holes in the floors and walls. They were looking for things that they thought were hidden in the secret dungeon. They were following sounds they thought they heard from underground. However, his efforts were unsuccessful and he got nothing.

When people arrived, what did they find?
When rebels captured Damascus on Sunday, they released dozens of people from the Saidnaya military prison. Since then no one has been found. Ghada Asad reached here with tears in his eyes. He asked, “Where are all the people?” Where are everyone’s children? Where are all the people?” Assad had gone from her home in Damascus to the prison on the outskirts of the capital in search of her brother. His brother was detained in 2011 when an uprising against the president’s rule first erupted, turning into a civil war. Civil defense officials assisting in the search were as confused as the families as to why no more prisoners were being found. He said it appeared that fewer prisoners were being held here in recent weeks.
It was difficult to oppose Assad
During Assad’s rule, and especially after the protests began in 2011, any sign of dissent toward the president could land a person in Saidnaya prison. Very few people could come out of jail. Amnesty International estimated in 2017 that 10,000-20,000 people ‘from all walks of life’ were held in Saidnaya prison.
