Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Beirut: Saudi Arabia has sentenced 6 Iranians to death in a case. After this there is a conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Iran has been enraged by this action of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has said that it has executed the death sentence of six Iranian people for drug trafficking. Iran has expressed strong objection to this incident. Saudi Arabia’s Interior Ministry said on Wednesday that six people caught smuggling hashish into the country were sentenced to death after the country’s Supreme Court rejected an appeal.
However, the ministry did not provide information as to when and where this punishment was given to the citizens of Iran. The ministry said the punishment is in line with Islamic law and aims to protect citizens and residents “from the curse of narcotics.” Iran’s official news agency ‘Irna’ said in one of its news that the Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned the Saudi Ambassador to Tehran. The report said Iran will send a delegation to Riyadh to discuss the matter.
Death given without informing Iran
The news quoted Foreign Ministry official Mojtaba Shasti Karimi as saying that the execution of the death sentence is contrary to the established process of judicial cooperation. He said that this action taken by Saudi Arabia without informing Iran is “not acceptable under any circumstances.” Relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia are not very cordial and the two countries have signed an agreement after seven years of tension. Diplomatic relations were resumed in early 2023. (AP)
