The AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifier Group-A match in Jordan has been transferred to Qatar amid the ongoing tension in Iran and Israel. The Women’s Asian Cup, who won this title in India three years ago, is now in the headlines once again due to geopolitical stress. AFC (Asian Football Confederation) has taken this decision with the aim of ensuring the safety of teams and players.
Match will be held in Qatar between July 7 and 19
The tension in the area has increased further after the rapid airstrikes between Israel and Iran, causing the threat of possible partnership of the US. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on Friday confirmed that the qualifier match of Group A, which was to be held in Amman, the capital of Jordan from 23 June to 5 July, has now been transferred to Qatar and the matches will be held between July 7 to July 19.
AFC said in its statement, more information about the site and time of matches will be shared soon. This decision has been taken with the aim of ensuring safety of players, officials and spectators due to increasing security risks in the Middle East.
Information of match sites and time table will soon come forward
AFC said in an official statement, “Information about match sites and time table will be shared soon.” The decision has been taken in view of the increasing military tension between Iran and Israel, threatening regional security and also feared a possible participation of the United States.
Teams involved in Group A:
Jordan
Singapore
Iran
Lebanon
Bhutan
These teams are trying to qualify for the Women’s Asian Cup 2026 (which is to be in Australia in March). The Singapore Football Association (FAS) also confirmed the transfer, saying that the decision has been taken due to “the status issued in the area and the logistic concerns raised by the participating teams”. Overall, eight qualifying groups have been formed, and the winning team of each group will get a place in the 2026 main tournament. Australia (hosts), South Korea, Japan and current champions China have already qualified for the tournament.
