World War II bomb explodes in Japan (file)
Tokyo: There was a commotion at the airport in Japan. When a World War II-era bomb buried in the ground here suddenly exploded. Due to this a huge crater was formed in the ground. Due to this, the air quality of airport officials and air passengers got spoiled. Investigation revealed that it was an American bomb, which was buried at a Japanese airport since World War II, but it exploded today. This caused a huge hole in the ‘taxiway’ and more than 80 flights had to be cancelled. However, there is no news of any casualty. Japanese officials gave this information. Land and Transport Ministry officials said there were no planes at Miyazaki Airport in southwestern Japan when the bomb exploded. Due to this a major accident was avoided. Officials said an investigation by the Self-Defense Forces and police confirmed that the explosion was caused by a 500-pound American bomb and that there was no longer any threat. They are finding out what caused the sudden explosion. Video recorded by a nearby aviation school showed chunks of asphalt spurting into the air like fountains from the explosion.

A big crater was formed at the place where the bomb exploded. Video broadcast on Japanese television showed a deep crater in the ‘taxiway’. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said more than 80 flights at the airport had been canceled and was expected to resume operations by Thursday morning.
