The epicenter of the earthquake was in Shijang of Tingri County.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the Indian National Seismological Center reported the earthquake’s magnitude as 7.1 and said its epicenter was at Shizhang in China’s Tingri County, about 90 kilometers northeast of Lobutse in the Khumbu Himalayan range in north-eastern Nepal.
