Significantly, in the meeting of BJP Legislature Party on Wednesday evening, Rekha Gupta, who became MLA for the first time, was elected the leader of the House in the Delhi Assembly. He then met Saxena and claimed to form the government in the national capital.
The party has returned to power in Delhi after 26 years and has ended the 10 -year rule of AAP led by Arvind Kejriwal.
On the official X account of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, it was said, “In the Delhi Assembly, BJP Legislature Party leader Rekha Gupta met Lt. Governor VK Saxena at Raj Niwas and claimed to form a new government of Delhi.”
It said, “The Lieutenant Governor accepted the claim and invited them to form a new government.”
Former President of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) and Municipal Corporation Councilor Gupta, Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dixit and Atishi are going to become the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi.
The new BJP government led by Gupta will take oath at a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries on Thursday afternoon. She will be the fourth Chief Minister of BJP in Delhi after Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma and Sushma Swaraj. It is noteworthy that Gupta will be the only woman Chief Minister in any BJP -ruled state.
