BJP -backed candidates won two in the election held on February 27 for three MLC seats in Telangana. The Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduate constituency of the State Legislative Council defeated Congress-backed Chaudhary Anji in the Graduate constituency of Congress by a margin of more than 5,000 votes.
The result of this seat was declared in the early hours of Thursday.
Elections were held under the preference polling system using ballot papers for Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduate and Teacher Constituencies and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers constituency. The counting of votes began last Monday.
BJP-backed Malka Komaraya won Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Teacher Constituency and independent candidate Shripal Reddy Pingili (supported by Teachers Association) won Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers constituency.
The results of two teacher constituencies were declared late on Monday evening. The counting of votes was a time -consuming process as this included separating legitimate and illegal votes and then counting votes based on preference.
Two of the three MLC seats won the morale for the BJP in the state. The saffron party fielded candidates for all three seats, while the ruling Congress contested only for graduation constituency. BRS kept distance from the election.
Union Minister Kishan Reddy, captive Sanjay Kumar and other BJP leaders campaigned extensively in the elections. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, State Congress President B Mahesh Kumar Gaur and other senior leaders of the party campaigned in support of their party candidate.
Appreciating the victory of BJP -backed candidates, Union Coal Minister and State BJP President G Kishan Reddy said that this victory is the victory of youth and teachers who have decisively rejected the Congress for their failure to overcome its unsuccessful rule and their concerns.
Kishan Reddy said on X, “The Congress fielded all its ministers, MLAs, MPs and spent heavily, yet they could not retain the Karimnagar graduate seat. This result gives a strict message to the Congress, which came to power by making false promises to people.”
This victory is important in the elections held in 13 districts, 43 assembly and six parliamentary constituencies and 270 mandals and reflects BJP’s growing strength in Telangana. He said that the party is emerging as a powerful force in the state.
He thanked the people of Telangana, especially teachers and youth for expressing their confidence under the leadership of “BJP’s development politics” and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Lok Sabha member from Karimnagar, Sanjay Kumar said late on Wednesday that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who doubted EVMs, should now respond as ballots were used in the election for three MLC seats.
He alleged that the results of the election are a lesson for the Congress, which is supporting a particular class. A release issued from his office quoted Sanjay Kumar as saying, “This is the gift of Ramadan given to the Congress by Hindu society.”
