Sahibganj, 24 March (IANS). A disease similar to brain malaria has wreaked havoc in the village of Nagarbhitha village of Mandro block under Sahibganj district of Jharkhand. Five children have died due to the disease within the last 12 days, while 12 others are ill.
After receiving information about this, the Health Department team reached the village on Monday and set up a camp. Medicines have been distributed among the people affected by the disease. Their blood and other samples have been collected and sent to Dumka for examination. Sahibganj Deputy Commissioner Hemant Sati has instructed the civil surgeon to arrange proper arrangements for the treatment of people affected by the disease.
It was reported that Jeeta Pahadia, the two -year -old son of Chandu Pahadia, died on March 12 in the village. He had high fever and was constantly vomiting. He was tried to treat herbs in the village itself. This was followed by Vikas Pahadia, the five -year -old son of Asna Pahadia on March 19, Befare Pahadia, son of Gulli Pahadia, on March 22, two -year -old daughter Etwari Pahadia of Biju Pahadia and Sajni Paharin, three -year -old daughter of Somra Pahadia on 23 March.
On Sunday, the head of Nagar Bhitha village informed the local leaders of JMM. After this, this matter was brought to the notice of the district administration and health department. All the deceased belong to the primitive tribe community.
The affected include Ruti Paharin, Dinesh Pahadia, Run Pahadia, Meena Pahadia, Joni Paharin, Daniel Pahadia, Manoj Pahadia, Pinkia, Pati Pahadia, Chuni Paharin and some others. Apart from these, samples of blood of more than 30 people have been collected.
The Deputy Commissioner has instructed the Health Department to take stock of the situation in the surrounding areas including the affected villages.
