The US has issued a ‘travel’ counseling for this union territory in view of the possibility of ‘violent unrest’ after the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir and within 10 km radius of the India-Pakistan border.
This consultation for all American citizens was released on Wednesday. A day before this, terrorists opened fire in Pahalgam in Kashmir, killing 26 people, most of whom were tourists. This was the deadliest attack in the valley after the Pulwama attack in 2019.
The latest consultation issued by the US State Department to American citizens states, “Terrorist attacks and violent citizens unrest in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory are possible. Do not travel to this state (except for Eastern Ladakh region and its capital Leh). There is sporadic violence in the region and it is common on the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan. It also takes place in Kashmir Valley’s Tourism Destiny: Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam. ”
He has also asked his citizens to avoid moving to an area of 10 km of India-Pakistan border, because there is “there is a possibility of armed struggle”.
India on Wednesday suspended the 1960 Indus Water Treaty in response to the Pahalgam terror attack and announced to reduce diplomatic relations with Pakistan, as well as expel to its military attachment.
