Railways will use AI to increase train safety, agreement with DFCCIL

New Delhi, 11 July (IANS). In order to improve railway service efficiency and automate the maintenance of rolling stock, the Indian Railways (IR) has signed an MoU with the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) for the establishment of a machine vision based inspection system (MVIS).

MVIS is a modern, AI/mL-based technology solution that captures the high-government photographs of the under-wheelers of moving trains and automatically detects any hanging, loose or missing components. This system sends a quick response and real -time alerts for action when explosion detections.

The MoU was formally signed by Sumit Kumar, Director (Project and Development) of Railway Board and Jawaharlal, GGM (Mechanical) of DFCCIL at Rail Bhawan New Delhi.

DFCCIL under MoU will be responsible for the purchase, supply, installation, test and commission of four MVI units. This system is the first in Indian Railways. The use of technology is expected to help increase the safety of train operations, reduce manual inspection efforts and help avoid potential accidents/service disruptions.

The Railway Ministry said, “This initiative is also aligned with the widespread objective of IR to introduce modern and intelligent systems for railway ecosystems. The signing of this MoU will open a new path for digital change in railway safety in the construction of rail infrastructure prepared for the future.”

Additionally, Indian Railways is also working fast to provide over 50,000 jobs by the end of this financial year. More than 9,000 appointment letters have been distributed by the Railways in the first quarter of FY 2025-26.

Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) is actively running a large -scale recruitment campaign to fill various posts. Since November 2024, RRB has conducted a computer-based examination (CBT) for more than 1.86 crore candidates across the country for seven different recruitment notifications.
