The 56th meeting of the GST Council under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman concluded on Wednesday. Many such decisions have been taken in this meeting which will provide relief to the common people. Now people will not have to pay 18% tax on everyday items. It has been reduced to 5%. That is, if seen, food and drink used in everyday life has become cheap. Apart from this, people will not have to pay much tax even on buying shoes and slippers and readymade clothes.
Now these products will not be taxed
In the GST Council meeting, butter, ghee, dried fruits, thick milk, sausage, meat, jam and jelly, coconut water, salt, 20 liters of drinking water bottles, fruit pulp and juice, milk, milk beverages, ice cream, pastry, biscuits, corn flakes and grains have been reduced from 18% to 5%. Now all these products have become cheap. In addition, there will be no tax on foods without packaging. In this way the government has given great relief to the people. Even before this, the government has faced criticism from people to increase tax on these products.
These items including two -wheelers have also become cheap.
It is proposed to reduce GST from 12% to 5% on items like tooth powder, milk bottles, utensils, bicycles, bamboo furniture and comb. In addition, it was decided to reduce the tax on shampoo, talcum powder, toothpaste, brush, face powder, soap and hair oil from 18% to 5%. It was decided to reduce the tax on cement from 28% to 18% and small petrol-diesel vehicles and two-wheelers with engine up to 350 cc from 28% to 18%. Also, consumer products like television, air conditioner, dishwasher are proposed to be taxed in a slab of 18%.
Relief on shoes and readymade clothes
The GST Council meeting proposed to provide relief on shoes and readymade clothes. Till now, products up to Rs 1,000 and 12% GST on products priced at Rs 1,000. The council has decided to increase the limit of 5% tax on shoes and clothes to Rs 2,500. Readmade clothes and shoes worth higher than this will come under 18% tax radius. The new GST rates will be applicable from September 22.
