Efforts are being made by the government to reduce pollution. In this sequence, now another rule is being implemented by the government. According to this rule, now all vehicle owners will have to obtain vehicle fitness certificate only from Automated Testing Stations. That is, now the Vehicle Fitness Certificate taken from any other place will not be valid. The government has given 1 year to start this rule.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification regarding amendment in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Under which it is mandatory for transport vehicles to obtain a fitness certificate only through a registered automated testing station. The government will implement this rule from next year.
On which vehicles the rule will be applicable from when
As per the notification, such verification will be made mandatory for heavy goods vehicles or heavy passenger motor vehicles with effect from 01 April 2023 and for medium goods vehicles or medium passenger motor vehicles and light motor vehicles with effect from 01 June 2024.
Ministry had sought advice
The ministry had earlier issued a draft notification proposing changes in the rules and had given 30 days for consultation and objections or suggestions before issuing the final notification. After which the notification for the implementation of the new rule has been issued. Explain that the rule framed for issuance of vehicle fitness certificate provides for a fitness certificate for two years for vehicles up to eight years and one year for vehicles older than eight years.
what will be the effect
With the implementation of this rule, the number of polluting vehicles can be reduced. Also, such vehicles which are very old, yet are running in a fake way, their number will also come down. Also, with the implementation of the new rule, the problem like jam can also be reduced.
