Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), an automobile industry body, said on Friday that total passenger vehicle, two-wheeler and three wheeler sales stood at 13,28,027 units in February 2022 as against 17,35,909 units in the same month last year. 23 percent less.
Passenger vehicle supply declined by 6 per cent to 2,62,984 units in February 2022 from 2,81,380 units in the same month last year. Passenger vehicle sales last month stood at 1,33,572 units as against 1,55,128 units in February 2021. However, utility vehicle sales increased to 1,20,122 units last month as against 1,14,350 units in February 2021.
Last month, 9,290 units of the van were sold, which is lower as compared to 11,902 units in February 2021. Similarly, two-wheeler vehicle sales declined by 27 per cent to 10,37,994 units last month from 14,26,865 units a year ago. Similarly, three wheeler sales declined marginally to 27,039 units last month from 27,656 in the same period last month.
Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, said, “Supply challenges such as shortage of semiconductors, cost overruns due to new regulations, increased cost and logistics costs have all led to increased sales in the automobile industry. Last month, the production of all categories of vehicles has come down by 20 per cent. A total of 17,95,514 units, including passenger vehicles, three wheelers, two-wheelers, were produced in February, while 22,53,241 vehicles were protected in February 2021.
