Petrol and diesel prices are increasing in the country. In such a situation, the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India fiercely sold CNG vehicles. According to the ET report, in FY22, the company sold around 235,000 CNG cars. The company’s CNG car sales grew 31% year-on-year. Not only this, there is also a huge booking backlog of 120,000 units for the CNG variant due to chip shortage.
2 percent growth in March
Maruti Suzuki India has also released the sales figures for the month of March. The company registered a growth of 2 per cent in overall wholesale sales in March with 1,70,395 units sold. Maruti Suzuki said in a statement, “The company sold 1,67,014 units in March, 2021.” However, the company’s car sales in the domestic market declined by 7 percent to 1,43,899 units as against 1,1 in March 2021. 55,417 units.

Highest ever export
If we talk about the full financial year 2021-22, then the company has registered a growth of 13 percent compared to the financial year 2020-21. The company sold a total of 16,52,653 units of cars. Of the total sales, domestic sales of 13,65,370 units, sales to other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of 48,907 units. Apart from this, the company has included the highest ever exports. The company has exported a total of 2,38,376 units.

CNG cars contributed 17% of the total sales and 33% of the sales of models with CNG variants. The contribution of CNG to the total sales of the industry is about 8.5 per cent. Maruti Suzuki has 9 out of 15 models with CNG option. CNG cars are being preferred due to their very low running cost. While CNG cars cost Rs 1.80 per km, it is around Rs 5.20/km for petrol/diesel cars.
