After Allahabad, Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh, there is a demand to change the name of one more district. After the formation of the BJP government for the second time under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh, on one hand, where the bulldozer action is in full swing, on the other hand, the demand for changing the names of places has also started gaining momentum again. BJP MP from Farrukhabad Mukesh Rajput has raised the demand to change the name of the district to Panchalnagar.
The BJP MP has written a letter to the Chief Minister of the state, Yogi Adityanath. In a letter to CM Yogi, Mukesh Rajput has said that the history of Farrukhabad is of very ancient times. Farrukhabad, situated between three rivers- Ganga, Ramganga and Kali river, was called Panchal Kshetra at that time. The city used to be the capital of the Panchala kingdom.
The BJP MP further wrote in his letter, “Princess Draupadi’s swayamvara took place in Kampil, the capital of King Drupada, the army of King Drupada resided in the cantonment town, where today two major regiments are Rajput and Sikhlai Regiment. He has said that Kapil has special significance for both Jain and Hindu religions.
BJP MP Mukesh Rajput has said in a letter to CM Yogi that Mughal ruler Farrukhshiar had changed the name of this historical city to Farrukhabad in 1714 with the aim of destroying the mythological culture of India. Mukesh Rajput has appealed to CM Yogi Adityanath to change the name of his parliamentary constituency district Farrukhabad to Panchalnagar/Aparkashi.
The names of Allahabad and Faizabad districts were changed during the first term of the Yogi government. Allahabad was renamed as Prayagraj, while Faizabad was renamed as Ayodhya. Apart from this, the names of many stations were also changed, about which politics was heating up. The opposition had targeted the BJP government after the names of the places were changed.
