Punjab government increased VAT on petrol and diesel
After Mizoram, now petrol and diesel are going to become expensive in another state of the country. Yes, Punjab’s Bhagwant Mann government on Thursday approved increasing the value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel in the state. The Aam Aadmi Party government of Punjab has increased VAT on petrol by 61 paise per liter and diesel by 92 paise per liter.
Decision taken in cabinet meeting
In an important cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, a decision was taken to increase VAT on petrol and diesel in Punjab. Addressing the media after the meeting, State Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that in the cabinet meeting, a decision has been taken to increase VAT on petrol and diesel.
Increasing the price of petrol and diesel will increase the government’s revenue
Harpal Singh Cheema said that VAT will be increased by 61 paise on petrol and 92 paise on diesel per liter. The Finance Minister said that by increasing VAT on petrol and diesel, the Punjab government will get an extra revenue of Rs 395 crore from diesel and Rs 150 crore from petrol.
Petrol and diesel became costlier by Rs 4 each in Mizoram
Let us tell you that earlier, the price of petrol and diesel was increased by Rs 4 per liter in the northeastern state of Mizoram. New prices of petrol and diesel have come into effect in Mizoram from September 1. Mizoram Taxation Minister Dr. Vanlalthalana said that this increase in the prices of petrol and diesel has been done with the intention of raising funds for social infrastructure and road maintenance.
Decision taken for the benefit and welfare of the people
Dr. Vanlalthana said, “The government has imposed a new levy of Rs 2 per litre on both diesel and petrol for social infrastructure and service cess and Rs 2 per litre for road maintenance.” He said the government took this decision for the benefit and welfare of the people.
