Along with petrol and diesel, the prices of CNG are also increasing, after which it is also affecting the taxi drivers. Auto-taxi service is also likely to become costlier amid hike in prices of petrol, diesel and CNG.
In fact, taxi unions have started protesting against the increased prices of petrol-diesel and CNG. On Friday, it started with the drivers’ dharna under the banner of Delhi Taxi, Tourist Transport and Tour Operator Association. The union is demanding reduction in VAT to cut CNG prices. The unions will hold a sit-in at the Delhi Secretariat on April 11 regarding this and then it has also been announced to go on an indefinite strike from April 18. Association president Sanjay Samrat says that due to the increase in the prices of diesel and CNG, the bookings from the tourists have become very less, due to which they are facing losses.

The association says that the continuous increase in prices is making it difficult to drive a taxi. In such a situation, the government also brought CNG and other petroleum products under the purview of GST.
Apart from this, there is also a demand that the fare of taxis like Ola-Uber should also be decided by the Delhi government. It is being said that the government should fix the rent at its level.
Apart from this, the government has also been demanded to give subsidy to the bus and taxi owners operating on CNG.
The association says that the government should reduce VAT on diesel like petrol. Late fees and fines taken at the time of fitness should also be removed.
