New Delhi. Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy, the founders of NDTV and directors of the company, have resigned as directors of RRPR, the company that runs the channel. Radhika Roy’s sister is CPM leader Brinda Karat. Prakash Karat is brother-in-law of Prannoy Roy. The new board of NDTV has accepted the resignations of Pranay and Radhika and informed the market regulator SEBI and the stock market. Let us tell you that famous industrialist Gautam Adani had bought 29 percent shares of NDTV in the past. Gautam Adani has also made an open offer to the shareholders of the company. Under this, he will get another 29.18 percent stake. Adani’s company has received 53 lakh shares so far under the open offer. NDTV had a total of 1.67 lakh shares in the market. The open offer will close on 5th December.
Adani Group has acquired 99.5 per cent shares in RRPR Holding Pvt Ltd, the promoter company of NDTV. Renowned journalists Sanjay Puglia and Senthil Chengalvarayan have been appointed as the new directors in the new board of NDTV. Gautam Adani had acquired Vishwapradhan Commercial Pvt Ltd in August this year. The Roy couple had taken Rs 400 crore from this company. In return, they were given bonds that could be converted into shares. Adani had converted these bonds into shares after the takeover of Vishwapradhan. The Roy couple objected to this. Both had said that SEBI has put a stop to any such move. SEBI said on this that there is no restriction and Adani’s move is within the purview of the rules.
Now NDTV is with Adani Group. This channel has been considered among the vocal opponents of the government. Especially the government supporters have been very angry with the program of Ravish Kumar, Managing Editor of NDTV Hindi. It is not yet known whether Ravish Kumar will work under the new company or will leave the job and go elsewhere. It is discussed that Ravish Kumar can leave his job and start his YouTube channel. However, Ravish has kept silence about this till now.
