IRCTC has asked the Railway Board to reconsider the order, according to which the Railways will now open its own food plazas, fast food outlets and restaurants apart from its catering unit to increase revenue.
What’s the matter: In fact, the Railway Board, in an order issued on March 8, had allowed its 17 zones to use the vacant spaces at stations for such units. There was huge loss of revenue and now it has been decided to hand over this responsibility to the Zonal Railways.
The order further stated that in view of the fact that several places allotted to IRCTC have remained vacant, thereby not getting proper services to the passengers and causing loss of revenue to the Railways, therefore, the zonal railways are not allowed to operate at railway stations. Permission has been sought for opening of Food Plaza / Fast Food Unit / Restaurant on the available vacant space.
