TRAI’s MNRL technology is a new way to deal with financial fraud.
The Reserve Bank of India i.e. RBI has recently instructed banks to use the MNRL list of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) available on the Digital Intelligence Platform by March 2025. This will enhance the risk of fraud and increase prevention. According to the news of the Economic Times, this technology developed by the Ministry of Communications can prevent bank accounts from being operated as money mules and/or involvement in/or cyber fraud.

According to the news, RBI says that mobile number can be misused online and other frauds. The central bank also admitted that the mobile number one has emerged as a ‘omnipotent identifier’. It can be misused by fraudsters to make different types of online and other frauds. In such a situation, TRAI’s MNRL technology can help a lot. The RBI has also described the increase in fraud as a matter of serious concern. The customer’s mobile number becomes a source of certification of OTP, transaction alert, account update etc.
