The government can give exemption from GST registration to small businessmen doing business through online platform. According to information received by ‘Hindustan’ through sources, on the lines of offline traders, the government can make arrangements to give these new exemptions to online traders. However, a final decision on this is to be taken in the meeting of the GST Council.
According to the official related to the matter, for a long time, small online traders have been demanding that they should be exempted from GST registration on the lines of offline traders. A proposal is being prepared in this regard, which can be presented in the next GST Council for its approval.
Turnover limit for sale Rs 40 lakh
At present, the turnover limit for the sale of goods to offline merchants has been fixed at Rs 40 lakh. However, it is Rs 20 lakh for special category states. At the same time, there is a limit of Rs 20 lakh for GST registration for services and Rs 10 lakh for special category states. These turnover limits are effective from 1 April 2019.
Will create huge employment opportunities
According to the information, only the arrangement of offline traders will be kept for online traders. So that the presence of small businessmen on the e-commerce platform can increase and wide employment opportunities can be created for the people. Not only this, the central government believes that this will give a boost to the one city one product scheme.

Along with this, it will be easy to sell products through the Government e-market place i.e. GeM portal. Through this, it will be easier for the products of small traders to get a bigger market with cities. At present, it is expected that the next meeting of the GST Council may be held in the end of April. Only then will a final decision be taken on this idea.
