Sensex-Nifty jumped sharply due to heavy buying of banking-energy stocks, closed at all-time high

Big fall in stock market after announcement of Budget 2024, huge loss to investors, crores of rupees lost

New Delhi. Both the major indexes of the Indian stock market, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty, have once again managed to touch new all-time highs. In Wednesday’s trading session, the BSE Sensex reached a high of 85,247.42 points, while the Nifty made a new record of 26,032.80 points. The market has registered this boom by showing tremendous recovery from the lower level. The Sensex saw a recovery of 500 points from the day’s low, while the Nifty also recorded a recovery of 161 points. In the end, the BSE Sensex closed at 85,170 with a gain of 256 points, while the Nifty closed at 26,004 with a gain of 64 points.

Sectoral Updates

In today’s session, good buying was seen in the stocks of banking, pharma, metals, real estate, media, energy and infrastructure sectors. However, stocks of auto, IT, FMCG, consumer durables and healthcare sectors registered a decline. Midcap and smallcap indices did not see any major rise today and they closed with a decline. At the same time, the volatility index (India Vix) in the market closed at 12.28 with a decline of 8.22%.

Market cap fell despite the rise in the market

Despite the stellar performance of Sensex and Nifty, the total market cap of the market has declined due to the fall in midcap and smallcap stocks. The total market cap of the stocks listed on BSE closed at Rs 475.24 lakh crore, which was Rs 476.07 lakh crore in the previous session. Thus, the market cap of the market has decreased by about Rs 81,000 crore in today’s session.

In today’s session, Power Grid closed with a gain of 3.91%, Axis Bank 2.18%, NTPC 1.94%, Bajaj Finserv 1.10%, Bajaj Finance 0.91%, Tata Steel 0.65% and HDFC Bank 0.59%.

Among the major stocks that fell, Tech Mahindra closed with a decline of 2.21%, Tata Motors 1.39%, Titan 0.93%, Kotak Mahindra Bank 0.92%, SBI 0.68% and Adani Ports 0.43%.
