Mumbai, The Sensex fell over 850 points in the opening session on Friday amid rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine and a weak trend in global markets. During this, the 30-share BSE Sensex was down 851.99 points at 54,250.69 in early trade.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty fell by 185.60 points to 16,312.45. Shares of Asian Paints, Maruti Suzuki India, Axis Bank, Wipro, Mahindra & Mahindra were also in the red mark in the opening trade in the Sensex, falling up to 4.51 per cent. In the previous session, the 30-share Sensex closed at 55,102.68, down 366.22 points or 0.66 per cent.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty closed 107.90 points or 0.65 per cent lower at 16,498.05. Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent futures rose 1.53 per cent to $112.16 a barrel. Foreign institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 6,644.65 crore on Thursday, according to provisional data from the stock market.
