According to the news of English newspaper Economic Times, Zomato has increased its platform fees by 25 percent. Zomato takes this platform fee from you only. In such a situation, now if you order food from Zomato, you will have to pay an additional Rs 5 every time. The special thing is that Zomato has increased the platform fees after making a GST demand and penalty of Rs 11.81 crore last week.
Zomato started charging platform fees from its customers from August 2023. Earlier it was Rs 2 per order. Then Zomato increased the platform fee to Rs 3. After this, in January itself, Zomato increased the platform fee to Rs 4 per order and now it has decided to make it Rs 5 per order. Zomato’s platform fees are separate from the delivery charges. Zomato has also decided that its Gold members will not have to pay delivery charges. Zomato will charge platform fees from these customers. According to Economic Times, Zomato receives 20 to 22 lakh orders every day. Accordingly, by increasing the platform fees, Zomato will earn Rs 20 lakh every day.
When Zomato increased its platform fees by Re 1 in January, its income increased significantly. Zomato’s sister platform Blinkit also charges a handling charge of at least Rs 2 on every order. In this way, the company can now earn a lot of money through these fees and charges, but the result will be that you will have to pay more money to Zomato every time you order.
