Patna. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said it was surprising to see a large number of Indian students pursuing medical studies in Ukraine. During the discussion in the assembly, Kumar also said that “this happening at the national level” shows that medical education in India is very expensive.
He said, “I am astonished to see that so many boys and girls go to such a distant country for studies”. This situation is different as compared to the Soviet era when children of people belonging to communist parties went to Russia and nearby countries for medical studies.” In Bihar, 20 MLAs, including members of the ruling NDA and MLAs Sanjeev Kumar and Devesh Kant Singh. The Chief Minister intervened by rising from his seat in response to the calling attention motion moved by him. In the proposal, there was a demand to fix the fee limit for MBBS course in private medical colleges of the country.
It was said in the proposal that for MBBS in the country, about 15 lakh rupees have to be paid in a year, which is three times more than studying in countries like Ukraine, Nepal, China, Philippine etc. Kumar said, “I am wondering how so many people came to know about cheap education in Ukraine. It seems that the reason for this is the rapid dissemination of information on social media. Nevertheless, the reasons for the students traveling so far should be investigated at the national level.” According to an official release, so far 144 boys and girls from Bihar have been brought back from Ukraine under the evacuation programme. These students are from 38 districts across the state.
