Beijing, China has promised India to work for the “speedy return” of more than 23,000 Indian students stranded at home due to its strict visa restrictions over the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, China has assured India that there will be no discrimination against Indian students as resuming their studies is not a political issue.
In its first positive dialogue on the complex issue of these Indian students, the Chinese Foreign Ministry informed the Indian Embassy here that “they are aware of the welfare of all foreign students including Indian students”. Most of these students are studying medicine in various Chinese colleges.
A press release from the Indian Embassy here said on Tuesday, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China has assured the Embassy that they are aware of the welfare of all foreign students, including Indian students, and that they are working in a coordinated manner.” Will work on his early return to China and will be in constant touch with the embassy on this subject.
“It will continue to work with the Chinese side on the issue of movement of people between the two countries,” the Indian embassy said in a press release. They are advised to keep in touch with the Chinese Embassy in Delhi and the Consulates in Mumbai and Kolkata for further information.
