New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a plea seeking cancellation of the ‘offline’ board exams for class 10th and 12th to be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and several other boards this year. A bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar said such petitions create “false expectations” and spread “confusion” everywhere.
“This not only creates false hopes but also creates confusion among the students preparing for the examination,” the bench said. Let the students and officials do their job. Let the officials decide. If the decision is wrong, then challenge it.” Advocate appearing for the petitioner said that the boards of most of the states have not yet announced the exam dates.
The bench said whenever the examination is to be held, the board will announce it and what is the problem in that? At the beginning of the hearing, the advocate appearing for the petitioner referred to the order passed by the apex court in the matter related to the board examination last year amid the COVID-19 epidemic. To this, the bench said that what had happened in the past cannot be a ground to pass the order at present.
In the petition, a request was made to direct CBSE and other education boards to conduct the examination through other means. CBSE and other education boards have proposed to conduct board exams for class 10th and 12th through ‘offline’ (in the school premises). CBSE has decided to conduct board exams for class 10th and 12th from April 26.
