Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has clarified that graduate medical (MBBS) students will have to compulsorily complete 12 months internship in the same college where they are pursuing their degree. MUHS issued a circular on May 3, 2022, following the new internship guidelines issued by the National Medical Council (NMC).
Internship guidelines issued by the NMC, as per the new gazette on externship, where students can do their internship in hospitals affiliated to medical colleges other than the institute enrolled for MBBS courses, are no longer allowed.
“The provision made available to students till last year, where one could do his/her internship in other universities in India, including deemed institutes/universities in Maharashtra, is now being discontinued. According to a circular issued by MUHS, students will have to complete their 12-month internship in the university in which they are enrolled.
Let us tell you, in July last year, the NMC released the draft regulation for Compulsory Rotating Internship 2021, which stated, “All Indian Medical Graduates must complete their entire period of Compulsory Rotating Internship Training (CRMI) in that institution , where he has done and completed his Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course.
