Delhi University has issued a notice asking students to compulsorily take prior permission for holding protests. In the past, the university had issued an advisory to the students to maintain law and order on the campus and focus on preparing for the upcoming examinations. DU Proctor Prof. Rajni Abbi said that the latest notice has been issued keeping in view the incidents that happened in the last few days.
He said that a student told that he is on hunger strike for four days. We didn’t know that either. What would we do if something happened to the student? He has made it mandatory to take permission from the proctor’s office to hold protests. He also said that we are not going to deny permission to anyone. There is a possibility of outsiders coming and playing mischief during the performance. Therefore it is also necessary for the safety of the students. We do not want the property of the student university to be damaged. Not only has the notice been posted on the website of the university, but has been sent to all student organizations, he added.
If there is damage to the property, the organizer is responsible: In the notice issued on Friday, it has been said that it is mandatory to inform the gathering and protest anywhere in the university. It is also instructed that the participants should refrain from violence and any damage to public property, failing which the organizers will be held responsible for the damage and action will be taken. Organizers must provide details about their college or department, contact number, e-mail address and course name at least 24 hours in advance.
