Mysuru. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said the ‘Cosmos’, to be built on the Mysuru University campus, will not only be a planetarium but will also provide data that young scientists can use for “future education”. Huh.
After laying the foundation stone of the state-of-the-art planetarium ‘Cosmos’, Sitharaman said, “It is not just a planetarium for which you all have gathered. It is much more than a constellation. This will give you figures that you can use.” For this Rs 81 crore has been given from Sitharaman’s MP fund and the project is expected to be completed by March 2023. On the idea of setting up a planetarium in the Mysuru University campus, the Finance Minister said she always wanted to create a “beautifully clean and Leh-like sky” in Mysuru.
Sitharaman is a Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka. He said, “If the sky of Ladakh can be seen from Delhi, then it can also be seen from Mysuru. Technology will help us in this.” On the question of the need of planetarium in Mysuru, he said that today everyone knows that data is the new fuel.
Sitharaman told the people gathered that data can be the new fuel but if it is not used then it will become useless. He said that the country needs such a center where ‘real time’ data related to astrophysics can be made available to the students and researchers.
