Russian President Vladimir Putin issued another warning on Sunday, saying the war would stop only when Ukraine lays down arms. So far hundreds (potentially thousands) of people have been killed in the Russian ‘military operation’ against Ukraine. But the Russian President says that this war will stop only if Kyiv lays down arms and fulfills all the demands of the Kremlin. Putin’s threat came during a telephone call with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.
Putin said in a conversation with the Turkish president, “Ukraine accepts our terms, the war will end.” According to Russian media, Vladimir Putin made it clear to the Turkish President that he is not ready to step back in Ukraine without accepting his conditions.
Significantly, before this, many leaders of the world, including PM Modi, have called Putin and urged him to find a solution through talks on Ukraine. But Putin is not ready to listen to anyone. On the contrary, Putin has said that he attacked Ukraine to stop the genocide.
After talks with the Turkish president, Russia said, “(He) was told that it is possible to stop the special military operation only if Kyiv stops … and the Russian demands are met.”
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, citing national security concerns over Ukraine’s closeness with the West and its move to join NATO. But Moscow has insisted that its attacks will not end until Ukraine’s military capability is destroyed and the country is freed from the “neo Nazis”.
Meanwhile, once again French President Emmanuel Macron has spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talks between the two leaders lasted for 1 hour 45 minutes.
