Summer season has arrived and many parts of India are battling heat wave. The Education Ministry has asked the schools to make such arrangements in the schools so that the students do not face any kind of health-related problems. Let us tell you, schools have given exemption from drinking water to removing the tie from the short school period to the reminder.
The education ministry guidelines asked schools to revise timings and reduce the number of school hours each day. It said schools may relax the uniform rules and allow canvas shoes instead of leather ones.
Schools have been asked to start from 7 am. Along with this, it has been asked to avoid sports / other outdoor activities. The ministry has asked the school to ensure the availability of adequate potable water at several places.
The ministry has said, “Every hour, the teacher should remind the students to drink water from their water bottles. Students should be made aware of the importance of proper hydration to combat heat wave and advised to drink enough water at regular intervals. While going back home, schools should ensure that students are carrying water in their bottles,”
The guidelines have also asked schools to ensure that fresh food is served in the canteens and at the same time parents may be advised not to carry food that quickly becomes stale.
Sachets of ORS solution or salt and sugar solution should be readily available in schools for the treatment of mild heat stroke. Teaching and non-teaching staff should be trained to provide first aid to students in case of mild heatstroke.
