The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on Tuesday announced the Class 12 subjects in which the subject is not mandatory for admission to some courses. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will no longer be compulsory subjects for admission to graduate courses in Architecture.
The other two courses which will not compulsorily require PCM subjects in class 12 are Fashion Technology and Packaging Technology. Last year, there was an uproar over students who did not study Physics, Chemistry or Maths (PCM) to get admission in the course of their choice.
PCM is not required in class 12th
AICTE said, “We have constituted an expert committee to make recommendations on admissions for which PCM can be made optional. Based on the recommendations of the panel, three courses have been selected.”
Apart from PCM, the subjects that are eligible for admission to the three courses include Computer Science, Electronics, Information Technology, Biology, Informatics Practice, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subjects, Agriculture, Engineering Graphics, Business Studies and Entrepreneurship.
PM Care Certificate for 12th Student
Reservation of two seats per course will not affect other children as institutions admitting students under this clause can increase their sanctioned admission capacity to two. “Such children who have been issued ‘PM CARES Certificate’ will be eligible for admission in polytechnic institutions under supernumerary quota,” the new approval process manual of AICTE said.
