Kajal has studied in Shamil, Haryana. After schooling, he studied engineering and completed his BTech in Electronics and Communication from Mathura. Talking about her dream job in an interview, Kajal said, “I always wanted to be a doctor as a child. I never thought anything else, that I would become an IAS officer.
After completing her graduation, Kajal got a job in Wipro. He earned Rs 23 lakh annually in Wipro. Kajal worked in this company for nine long years.
This is how the preparation of kajal started
Kajal’s father wanted her to study civil services. He wanted to see his daughter become an IAS officer. He also gave this dream to his daughter. By that time, Kajal was married to Ashish Malik, who worked at the US Embassy in Delhi. Kajal’s husband also supported her dream of becoming an IAS officer. Due to the financial condition of the family, Kajal could not leave her job. So he started preparing for UPSC Civil Services while continuing his day job at Wipro.

Kajal started her preparation in the year 2014. She failed in her first two attempts. After marriage, her husband supported her idea of becoming an IAS officer. Kajal started her preparation afresh in 2016. He analyzed his past efforts to devise a new strategy. He realized that his only mistake was not taking UPSC exam seriously.
She sat down with the syllabus and analyzed them. This time Kajal prepared her syllabus completely. Her husband was extremely supportive. He also helped her with household chores during her preparation days.
She used to study in the morning before going to office and also during commuting. After returning from her office, she used to take out 2 hours to study.
In 2017 also Kajal could not clear the Civil Services Preliminary Examination. At that time she had lost all hope, but her husband and family again motivated her to give another chance to UPSC CSE.
In the year 2018, Kajal was completely ready. She revised the NCERT, started preparing for current affairs and practiced answer writing a lot. Kajal got a positive result for her hard work and secured 28th rank in UPSC CSE 2018 that year.
Kajal Jawla scored 850 marks in UPSC Mains and 201 out of 275 in Interview. His total marks were 1051. Kajal got MP cadre after clearing UPSC CSE 2018.
