New Delhi, Director Imtiaz Ali, who gave Bollywood iconic films like ‘Rockstar’, ‘Tamasha’, ‘Love Aaj Kal’, ‘Laila Majnu’ and ‘Jab We Met’, does not need any recognition in the world of films today. He has defined love on screen in a new way through his films. Imtiaz Ali is counted among the best writers and directors of Bollywood today. The film journey of this director, who explained the philosophy of love and life through his films, was never easy.
Born in a Muslim family of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, Imtiaz Ali’s father was a contractor. He used to do irrigation work in the fields and sometimes the director would go to work in the fields to help his father. Imtiaz Ali, nephew of Pakistani actor Khalid Ahmed, was always interested in theatres. During his studies, he started going to theaters and from there his interest in theaters originated.
Debut film flopped badly
After studying from Hindu College of Delhi University, Imtiaz Ali started his career by directing TV serials. He started his journey as a director by directing the serials ‘Kurukshetra’ and ‘Imtihan’. He entered Bollywood in the year 2005 with the film ‘Socha Na Tha’. Abhay Deol and Ayesha Takia were seen in important roles in this film. However, this film flopped miserably at the box office.
‘Jab We Met’ proved to be the turning point
In the year 2006, Imtiaz Ali made Soha Ali Khan and Abhay Deol’s film ‘Ahista Ahista’ and his second consecutive film failed at the box office. The film ‘Jab We Met’ released in 2007 proved to be a turning point in the director’s career. From here, Imtiaz Ali’s career gained momentum and he gave films like ‘Love Aaj Kal’, ‘Rockstar’, ‘Cocktail’, ‘Highway’, and ‘Tamasha’.
