Bengaluru, November 3 (IANS)| To prevent untoward incidents following the death of Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar, the state government has banned alcohol. The Cyber Crime Branch of Karnataka Police on Wednesday arrested a 20-year-old youth for posting objectionable messages on social media on liquor ban.A student pursuing B.Sc in a private college in Andhra Pradesh has been arrested from his residence in north Bengaluru.Police said they have taken him into custody after confirming that derogatory messages and a photograph were uploaded from his mobile phone.
However, the accused student refuted the allegation saying that his social media account was hacked and the correct message has been distorted.The post shared on October 30 went viral and drew a sharp reaction from fans of the late actor and a complaint was also filed in this regard.Fans shared the post with politicians, police and other dignitaries demanding action. Police Commissioner Kamal Pant was also tagged.Police have booked the accused student under IPC section 153 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, caste, place of birth, residence, language etc.) and IT Act, 2000.
